The office adopted a dress-down policy last month. My co-workers and I rejoiced, until we remembered we’d just gone shopping for office clothes and we will probably never wear them again. Why should we? It’s easier to dress for work when you’re allowed to wear almost anything, as long as it’s been washed.
I am on the night shift until, my boss has just informed me, next month. The result of this has been that I’ve stopped trying to look nice when I go to work. My regular office outfit has been reduced to:
1.T-shirt
2. jeans
3. sneakers
4. jacket
My hair hasn’t been cut in about a year. I badly need a manicure and pedicure. In other words, I look like a slob. No, scratch that. I am a slob.
Why can’t slobs like me look like this:

Answer: Because this brand of unkemptness (is this a word?) requires a stylist.

It was a competition among us cousins, though I don’t know how eagerly they took part in it. I was my grandmother’s and aunts’ favourite, their manok, as it were, because everyone here takes part in sabong (cockfighting) even if they hate gambling. My grandmother didn’t like her daughter-in-law, so she expected me to be nicer, smarter, prettier, better than my cousins. I don’t know what she’d say about me if she were alive to compare me with them now. I don’t know that I care.
Last year, Cweedy-poo was born; earlier this year, Chabs arrived. These children will probably seldom see each other as they live in different countries. Nonetheless, the sabong has begun.
I just hope Cweedy-poo doesn’t grow up to be a bully and Chabs isn’t raised to be a pussyboy.
Two months ago, during a granduncle’s funeral, an uncle asked me when they’re going to have a grandchild/niece/nephew by me.
You’ll get one when I have a sperm donor.

I remember the first time I ate at the Ayala Museum’s M Cafe. I grabbed a bite from Maan’s spicy garlic tuyo penne and it was heavenly.
Now it is an oily, soggy mess.
What happened?

Trust me, it’s more debilitating than a fever.
Less so than a toothache.
